Gerald Putt is a wildlife and nature artist who grew up in the small, quiet, rural south-central
Pennsylvania town of Boiling Springs where a picturesque log building is now home to Gerry's studio
and wildlife art gallery. The ducks on the lake in his hometown inspired him at a young age and later
became one of his first subjects.
Gerry's painting of a pair of American Wigeons won the 2011 Pennsylvania Duck Stamp Contest
making him the only person to have won this contest nine-times which is three-times that of any other
artist. One judge said of Putt's 2009 PA Duck Stamp ( Hooded Merganser ) painting , "The piece is
perfectly composed. It's exceptional realism and depth impart such a feeling of movement that I was looking
for the ducks to blink." Putt's painting of a trio of American Wigeons won the 2009 North Carolina State
Duck Stamp Contest. Gerry also won the 2011 & 2006 "Artist of the Year" Painting Contest for the
Ruffed Grouse Society. His Pintail painting appeared on the 2006 Illinois State Duck Stamp. Gerry has
been in the "Top Twenty" of the Federal Duck Stamp contest many times including the 2010 competition.
Putt is quite proud of finishing in 6th place for the 2003 & 7th place for the 2005 Federal Duck Stamp
contest. Gerry is two-time winner of the PA Game Commission's "Working Together For Wildlife" art
print contest and he also won the 2001 Pennsylvania Elk ~ Fine Art Print Contest. In 1997 his painting
of wigeons won the Colorado Duck Stamp Contest.
Gerry is in his "fifth-decade" of supporting conservation groups such as Ducks Unlimited, the
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Ruffed Grouse Society, Trout Unlimited, The Nature Conservancy,
The Wildlands Conservancy and the National Wild Turkey Federation as well as many others. The sale
of his art has raised many, many thousands of dollars for wildlife habitat improvement.
Putt has been in Ducks Unlimited's National Art Package twice and was chosen as runner-up for
Ducks Unlimited's "International Artist of the Year". Gerry has won "Best of Show" & "Peoples
Choice" honors at many wildlife art shows, other state and national competitions as well as being named
Ducks Unlimited "Artist of the Year" for the states of New York, South Carolina, Colorado and five-
times for Pennsylvania.
Gerry's original paintings, limited-edition prints and giclees are in collections worldwide
including the art collections of former President George W. Bush and former Pennsylvania Governor
Tom Ridge. Putt has been working as a full-time wildlife artist for the past thirty years. Gerry
believes, "An artist can not rest on one's laurels but must strive to improve with each and every painting".
Putt is a Life Member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He's also a member of the
Outdoor Writers Association of America, Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, Ducks Unlimited,
Ruffed Grouse Society and many other wildlife conservation organizations.
